The Power System of FPV Drones
I. Core Components of the Power System
The FPV drone power system consists of four core components: propellers, motors, ESCs, and batteries. These components work together to directly determine flight speed, maneuverability, endurance, and handling.
Motor: The "Heart" of Energy Conversion
FPV drones are typically equipped with brushless DC motors. Their key parameters include physical size, Km (motor size constant), and Kv (speed constant).
3.1 Relationship Between Size, Torque and Speed
Labeled with four digits (e.g., 2207): the first two digits represent stator width (greater width means higher torque), and the last two represent stator height (greater height means higher RPM).
Common size-to-drone matches:
2-inch drones (11XX series), 3-inch drones (14XX–15XX series), 5-inch drones (22XX–23XX series).

3.2 Km Value and Kv Value
Km Value: Positively correlated with motor size (e.g., 2208 > 1806).Motors with a higher Km achieve higher efficiency at high power (lower copper loss), while lower-Km motors perform better at low power (lower iron loss).
Kv Value**:
No-load speed = Kv × voltage
(e.g., a Kv2000 motor reaches 20,000 RPM at 10V).Higher Kv means higher speed but lower torque (requires smaller propellers); lower Kv means the opposite (requires larger propellers).
3.3 Performance Reference (Thrust Efficiency Chart)
Standard motors come with a thrust efficiency chart, including parameters such as supported battery S-count, current, thrust, efficiency (thrust/power), and temperature.
Example: *“GF543 prop + 21V battery: 20.3A current, 1645g thrust, efficiency ≈ 81.03g/W”*.
Selection should be based on flying goals (racing / endurance).
